Welcome
Welcome to our small, family-run stud of quality Shetland ponies based on the island of Unst, Shetland. We aim to breed strong standards of various colours with emphasis placed on good bone, conformation and movement.
When shown, our ponies usually do well and are consistently in the ribbons. Recent successes include ring prizes at the 2009 Breed Show - 1st prize filly foal/best foal and 1st prize veteran for the mare Shahn of Muness.
History
Although few in numbers, Muness ponies have been on the go for several generations, with records dating back to the early 1900s. Today, our ponies include bloodlines carried on from both of my grandfathers' studs - Muness and Guddon ponies. Our matriarch mare, Clivocast Maria, was gifted to me as a foal in 1984, from Margaret Hunter when I was 14 years old.
Stallions
In past years, our mares would run free with the appointed Scattald stallions. More recently, we've been fortunate to have access to some superb stallions from studs such as Clivocast, HRE, Musselbrough and Clibberswick to name a few. We are currently in the process of looking for the right stallion for our stud.
Skye
I currently divide my time between the Isle of Skye and "home" in Unst, Shetland. It is hoped that in the near future we will have one or two of our younger ponies which can be viewed on Skye - visitors welcome!
